More and more people are discovering one of the semisecret gems about 25 kilometers south of Koh Chang. Backpackers as well as families and couples have fallen for the small island with the cozy atmosphere.

One of the newly opened resorts, The Makathanee Resort, opened 2007 on Baan Yai Beach on the eastern side of Koh Mak. The resort is located directly on the beach, next to Makathanee pier.

The resort is small. Only 16 rooms in either sea view villas (8) located in the garden with sea view, or rooms in 2 two storey buildings behind the villas close to the pool. There is a garden area in front of the villas and they the beach is about 20 meters away.

The restaurant is just by the beach. Just outside the resort is a private pier where you can take a boat to Koh Rayang to spend some time on a small private island.

There are several other small resorts nearby and just behind the resort are a few nice restaurants - Aimee is the best. Just up the road is a German guy, Claus, who runs a ice-cream shop, rent your motorbike from him.

The Makathanee resort suits people with a bit higher demands when it comes to accommodation and to be close to restaurants outside the hotel.

Good value for the money. It's also probably the nicest place to stay on Baan Yai Beach on Koh Mak.
