| Saraburi,
a province in the upper central region of Thailand is rich in tourist
attraction resources including natural sites, artifacts,
festivals,temples as well as historical sites. Located
108 kilometres
from Bangkok and 65 kilometers from Ayutthaya it is conveniently commutable
within a day. Topographically the southern and western parts of Saraburi
are plateaus 2 meters above sea level. Ranging from plains to plateaus
of 8 to10 meters high above sea level broken by mounds and hills, the
land gradually rises to the north and the northeast. Saraburi is on
the one very important river: the Pasak River which flows through Amphoe
Muak - lek, Kaengkhoi,
Muang Saraburi and Saohai and meets the Chao
Phraya River at Ayutthaya. It s length is 105 kilometres. Important
canals are Raphiphat,Roeng - rang Wihandaeng, Phrieo etc.

How To Get There
Transportation between Saraburi and Bangkok or other Province is very
convenient. There are various types of transportation available:
Car
From Bangkok, take Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Road) to Saraburi.The
total distance is 108 kilometres
From Ayutthaya, take Highway No. 309 (Ayutthaya- Wangnoi) and turn
left onto Highway No.1 (Phahonyothin) until you reach Sararburi City.
The total distance is approximately 65 kilometres.
Bus
Air-conditioned
buses leave the Northern Bus Terminal (Mochit)
from 05.00 to 20.30 and leave Saraburi Bus Terminal from 05.00 a.m.
to 08.10 p.m.The bus leaves every 15 minutes. The trip takes approximately

By non - airconditioned bus non- airconditioned buses leave Saraburi
Bus Terminal from 06.00 to 18.00 and leave Ayutthaya (Cho Phrom Market
) From 06.00 a.m. to 05.30 p.m. The bus leaves every 30 minutes. The
trip takes approximately 2.20 hours and the fare is 18 baht.
Train
From Bangkok Railway Station (HuaLumphong), there are many
trains to Saraburi. The trip takes 2 hours. Moreover, there is a rail
service touring Chedsaonoi Waterfall and Kusuma Farm Resort on a one-day
excursion operated by State Railway of Thailand. The fare is 160 baht
for an adult and 125 baht for a child. For further information, you

Tourist Attractions
Crocodile Farm and Zoo The crocodile farm and zoo
Located next to the east of Phra Phutthachai Hill, accessed by a compressed
laterite road
300 meters in length. The farm is for raistng and breeding
crocodiles. Besides the farm,
visitors can enjoy watching other animals
in the zoo.
Khao
Samlan National Park  The
park area cover: Amphoe Kaengkhoi, Amphoe Nongkhae, Amphoe Wihandaeng
and Amphoe Muang Saraburi: The park has been declared a National
Park since June 2nd 1981 and it is located on the Bangkok - Saraburi
Highway
(Highway No 1 ). 16 kilometres from Saraburi City. there are two
entrances on the right of the high way at kilometre 102 and 104
along a compressed
lateritre road 9 kilometres long Visitors can also take a bus to
Saraburi City and hire a minibus to the park The park lifes in
mounts and hills
broken by plain in the valley. The highest peak is
Khrok Hill (Khao
Songklong), measuring 329 meters in height above sea level. From
this peak, visitors can clearly see the City of Saraburi and nearby
districts.
The park is covered by two types of rain forest: Deciduous and Mixed
Deciduous. In the park there are various wild animals e.g. the pheasant,
jungle fowl, barking deer, monkey, wild hog and various species of
birds.
The most significant one is Princess Sirinthon Bird. There are
many picturesque waterfalls e.g.Samlan, Phohindat, Rai Kuakma Sap
makha, Krok-iwoe (Krok ma-woe) and Tonraksai.
It addition there is an ancient
stupa on the top of the mountain (Khao Radar) From the Park Office,
there are ample parking areas and paths to the waterfall. The Paths
are connected to one another. The trip taked about 2 hours. For accommodation
in the park, there are two camps locater in the wool, each of which
can accommodate 80 people. The park also Provides large camping spaces

Phra Phutthachai
By the same entrance to Khao Samlan National Park at kilometre 102
and 104, there is a road on the right to Phra Phuthachai, Phra
Phutthachai is a red picture outlining the standing Buddha, measuring
5 metres
in height, naturally formed by water dripping on the cliff of Phathawi
Hill which is located at Wat Phra Phutthachai in Tambon Nong Planlai,
Amphoe Muang Saraburi.
Phra Phutthachai was discovered in the reign
of King Songtham of Ayutthaya during which the Holy footprint at
Amphoe Phra Phutthabat was discovered. Phra Phrtthachai has been
visited and
reverd by Thai Kings and Buddhists since the Ayutthaya Period. Nearby
to the right is a mondop enshrining the Buddha footprint; and a holy
Pho tree which was brought from Sri Lanka in 1949. Phra Phutthachai
fair has been held annually during the fourth lunar month (March)
since the former times.
Phra Phutthaniraro Khantarai
This significant Buddha image eas offered to the people of Saraburi
by King Rama 9, the present King. This Buddha image in enshrined
in the four-portico Pavilion at Wat Saladaeng opposite Saraburi City
Hall.
Phu - Khae Botanical Park
Located at Tambon Phu - Khae in AmphoeMuang Saraburi
on the Phahoyothin Road,
17 kilometres from Saraburi City.Under the Royal Forest Department, the park
is the collection centre of various plants, whose origins are domestic and overseas,
for the purpose of botanical
studies as well as plants breeding promotion. Appopriate
for relaxation, the park is covered by extensive forests offering cool shades
and flowing streams. It is open daily from 08.00 a.m. till 06.00 p.m.

Siwilai
Cave
Located
in the precinct of Wat Tham Siwilai in Thambon Naphralan, Amphoe
Muang Saraburi, 22 kilometres from Saraburi City. Inside the
cave, there are Phra Phutthannwarat a Buddha image in the Chiangsaen
art style; and fascinating stalactives and stalagmites.
Visitors can also enjoy the natural beauty of mountain ranges overlapping
one another.

World War II Monument of Japanese Army (Khao Daeng)
Located in Khao Samlan National Park, adjacent to the south of Wat
Phra Phutthachai.
The construction which was built during World War
II by the Japanese soldiers was a prison for Prisoners of war. This
place is in the process of being converted to a museum displaying
the weapons used during World War II.
Khitkhin City
Located at Tambon Banmo, Khitkhin City is an ancient city dating from
the Khmer period.
Another name of this city is "Parantapa" o "Senaratchakhon" Currently
only the earthern mound of the moat still remains, measuring 4 meters
in height and 60 metres in width. In the middle of the city there is
a high mound called "Khok Prasat" in addition a seated
Buddha image in the posture of being under the protection of
naga heads was
discovered at the water side area which is assumed to have
been a royal landing.
Phra Phothisat Cave
Located 32 kilometres from Saraburi City on the Friendship Highway
at Wat Tham Phra Phothisat, Mu 10 Tambon Thapkwang in Amphoe Kaengkhoi.
To access this cave, go along the Highway for 15 kilometres, on the
right you will see the entrance to Wat Tham Phra Phothisat turn right
onto an asphalt road and continue or 2 kilometres and turn left onto
a laterite road and go along the road for 9 kilometres. Phra Phothisat
Cave, formerly called Tham Khao Namphu or Tham Phra Ngam is in Namphu
Hill. On the cave wall, there are carved figures of Phra Phothisat,
an image in the Dvaravati art style; and a stupa. Besides the carved
figures, there are glittering stalagmites and stalactites. Outside
the cave it is full of a wide variety of plants which offer tranquility,
shade and beauty. In the vicinity there are many other interesting
caves e.g. Thammathat Cave, Lumphinin Rock Garden Cave and Sa- ngat
Stupa Cave
Phra Phutthabat Noi
It is a model of the holy Buddha footprint traced deeply in the
ground, located in the compound of Wat Phra Phutthabat Noi, Mu 10, Tambon
Songkhon,
Amphoe Kaengkhoi. The temple is located in the limestone valley of
unusual beauty, 20 kilometres from Saraburi City on Highway No. 2 (the
Friendship Highway). Turn left into Amphoe Kaengkhoi and cross Adireksan
bridge. Then turn left and go along Adireksan Road, turn right and
go along the Songkhon - Phra Phutthabat Phukhae Road
of about 7.5 kilometres.
Phrathatcharoentham Cave
Located in the compound of wat Phrathatcharoentham in Tambon Songkhon,
Amphoe Kaengkhoi, 22 kilometres from Saraburi City on Highway No.
2 (the Friendship Highway). Another name of the cave is "Phrathat
Bo-pla Cave" Since formerly there were abundant fish living
in ths area. Inside the cave, various chambers are full of beautiful
stalagmites
and stalactites in various forms together with a Buddha image in
the posture of subduing Mara in the Pattankosin art style.
Phasadet Located
At the railway side at Mu 5 Tambon Thapkwang in Amphoe Kaengkhoi, Phasadet
is a cliff which was visited by King Rama 5 and his Queen in 1895 after
the Bangkok -Nakhon Ratchasima railway was being constructed. They
inscribed their initials on the cliff. The cliff is 30 kilometres from
Saraburi City on the Friendship Highway. Go along the Highway for 25
kilometres and turn left at Ban Sapbon School; then go further for
5 kilometres on the laterite road.
The Pasak River Rafting
With the fascinating scenery on both banks together with beautiful
mountain ranges along the way, the Pasak River is a remarkable place
for rafting among rock islets and whirl pools.
At some places the water
is calm and cool and floods the banks, making it suitable for bathing
or playing in. In addition, visitors can enjoy trekking and camping
at Phamin Beach. In the river, it is and enjoyable place for fishing
Pla - krathing whose flesh is deliciously sweet.
At Amphoe Kaengkhoi,
15 kilometres from Saraburi City on Highway No.2 raft and motorboat

Phaitam Bird Sanctuary
Located at the house compound of Mr. Tom Muanmaen, a former teadman
of Mu 6, Tambon Phaitam in Amphoe Nongkhae,17 kilometres from Saraburi
City, on Highway No.1 (Phahonyothin Road). The entrance is at 84 kilometres
on the left. The park, located in the bamboo wood has become a good
dwelling place for various kinds of birds for over 50 years. The birds
leave for food early morning and return at dusk. Major Events and Festivals
Buddhist Rains Retreat Flower Offering.
Phran Langnua
Located close to the Holy Buddha Footprint Shring,Phran Langnua well
is a small stone well renovated later especially at its mouth and
its nearby area where a mark of a humun knee appears. Next to the
well, there is a stone slope snd a small hole on it. Deep inside
the hole there is water coming out, which is believed to be sacred.
The holy water from this hole comes out maturally and continuously.
Visitors can enjoy throwing coins in after making their wishes; and
then try to delve into the hole for their thown coins. Those who
can get their cons back are belived to be very lucky.
Phra Phutthabat Shrine
Located at Tambon Khunkhlon, Amphoe Phra Phutthabat, 28 kilometres
from Saraburi City.
There is an entrance to the left before you reach
Amphoe Phra Phutthabat. The distance to the temple is one kilometre.
The most important aspect of this temple is the Holy Buddha FootPhot
Hill of Satchaphanthakhiri Hill. The feature of the Footprint is similar
to that of a human being, measuring 21 inches wide, 5 feet long and
11 inches deep. The Footprint was discovered in the reingn of King
Songtham (1624- 1628)
who faithfully believed that this must have been
the
Lord Buddha's Footprint because its featres The King then
hak a
mondop constructed to enshrine the Holy Buddha Footprint. Other buildings
were added later periods. The mondop is a square-shaped building decorated
with a seven-storey top roofing with green ceramic tiles.
Each storey
is decorated with a niche. There are square-form pillars with indented
corners.
Each
pillar is gilded and structed with glass. The exterior walls of
the mondop are qilded and decorated wiht pieces of glass in
the shape of celestial beings ans lotus buds. The door panels are
in land with mothe-of pearl with exquisie designs. This workmanship
belongs
to the royal artists in the rign of King Bormmakot ot Ayutthaya.
The steps ascending the mondop consist of three paths. Each is
decorated
with a Naga figure starting with its five heads at the foot of the
path and its body lying along the rail to the mondop. These five heads
of each Naga were cast in bronze. The Naga paths
are Known
as Silver, Gold and crystal, symbolizing the three descending paths
from heaven. Around the mondop there are many bells hanging in rows
for visitors to ring.
It is believed that ringing the beels would
help mankind to gain more merit.
The ubosot and the wihan around
the mondop
were constructed in the Ayutthaya and the early Rattanakosin period
style of architecture. In addition, in the temple compound there
is a museum with collections of valuable art objects e.g. Ding Songtham's
outfits, porcelain,Sangkhalok ware, ancient bronzeware, ancient weapons,
model of the holy Buddha footprint, old roof top of
Phra phutthabat
Mondop, monk ranking fans from different periods and water supply
pipes
in the reign of King Narai the Great. Each year at he Buddha Footprint
Shrine visitors, both thais and foreigners, come to worship the Footprint
particulary during the "Festival of the3rd waxing moon the 1st
day of the 3rd waxing moon (February) and between the 8th day of
the 4 the waxing moon to the 1st day of the 4th waxing moon (March)".
In addition this temple is a place where the famous festival of offering
flowers to monks is annnually The Rain Retreat Day. This traditional
event is observed only at Wat Phra Phuttabat in Saraburi and Wat
Bowonniswetwihan in Bangkok.
Phra Phutthabat Museum
InsideWat Phra Phuttabat has Phra Phuttabat Museum. This museum collected
the ancient things especially, the dress of Phra Chao Throng Tham
Sungkhalok old China with blue pattern, ancient bronze, ancient weapons,
footprint
of Buddha, the old roof of Phra Phuttabat and the dress and articles
used by the soverign Phra Na Rai the Great.
Phrathat Cave
is one of the most fascinating caves, located 8 kilometres to the
south of the Holy Buddha Footprint Shrine, on the top of the hill
which is
100 meters in height.
Inside the cave, many Buddha imaged are enshrined.
Prathun Cave
Located at Tambon Khunkhlon in Amphoe Phra Phutthabaty 3 kilometres
from the Holy Buddha Footprint Shrine, At Prathun Cave there is a
stupa which was constructed by the command of
King Rama 4 to Keep
the the
Buddha relics. Inside the cave there is the Phra Sangkatchai Buddha
image and a stupa. Next to this cave about 4 kilometres from the
Holy Buddha Footprint Shrine, there are Mahasanuk Cave and Wimanchak
Cave
which comtain spectaclar stalagmites and stalacties. Before reching
there caver, visitors can see water springing up from the hill.
Any
Buddha imaged are enshrined.
Thamkrabok Monk Sanctuary
Thumkrabok Monk Sanctuary is a famous place to cure drug addicts,
located at the Prongprap Hill in Tambon Khunkhlon, Amphoe Phra Phutthabat,
25 kilometres from Saraburi City on Phahonyothin Road. Somnaksong
Thamdrabok
was founded by Mother Mian Panchan in 1957. After her death, Abbot
Chamrun Panchan, her nephew has continued this work; he later received
the Magsaysay Award on 10 September 1975.
Thankasem Residence
Located at Tambon Khunkholn, Amphoe Phra Phutthabat on the bank of
Than Thongdaeng, a large stream flowing through Amphoe Phra Phutthabat.
Local People live on the water from this stream Thankasem, a royal
residence, was constructed during the reign of King Prasatthong of
Ayutthaya.
At present only its ruined foundation and walls remain.
Thepnimintteanthongdaeng Cave
Located at Wat Phukhambanphot in Tambon Phukhamchan, Amphkoe Phra
Phutthabat. The cave is a prehistorical site situated in the moutain.
The discoveries in
the cave include Neolithic articles which are similar of identical to those
discovered at Ban Thakhae, Ban Dilang and Sapchampa in Lopburi: It is assumed
that the Neolithic people dwelling at these places must have had relatins
with one another.
Bung Ngong
Located at Tambon Muangkao in Amphoe Saohai. Bung Ngong is a natural
water resource which is able to hole a water supply throughout a
year. Its scenery is spectacular.
Bung Wat Phet
Located at Tambon Ban Yang in Amphoe Saohai, bung Wat Phet is a Natural
water resource with a Marvelous scenery.
Sao Ronghai
is a big wooden pillar situated at Maenang Takhian Shrine it Wat Sung,
Tambon Saohai,
500 meters from Salhai District Office. It is highly
respected by many people who believe that there is a goddess dwelling
in the Pillar. All offerings to the pillar are theng for a landy.
There
is a story about it. When Bangkok was being constructed as the capital,
notices were sent to many provinces, informing them to select the finest
wooden pillar suitable for being the principal one. Saraburi sent a
beautiful Takhian Thong wooden pillar to bangkok by Floating it along
the Pasak River, but unfortunately in arrived too late for the selection,
however, it was selected as the second to the principal one. It was
expected that if this Pillar had arrived time it would have been selected
as the principal one. Therefore this pillar was very sad floating upstream
from Bangkok and sank at Tambon Saohai for over 100 years. At night
people heard its crying In 1958 the pillar as pulled up from the water
and shrined in Wat Sung. There is an annual celebration held on 23
April. In addition, inside the shrine there is a large stone bell found
from the excavations at Amphoe Sithep in Phetchabun. The bell is hanging
for people to ring since it is believed that to ring the bell is to
offer merit to others.
Wat Khaokaeo Worawihan
Located at Tambon Tontan in Amphoe Saohai, on the righ bank of the
Pasak River. On his royal visits to various province as King Rama 4
also visite Amphoe Saohai, and had a royal Pavilion consructed at a
very beautiful place of Thahinlat in front of Wat Khaokaeo. The King
had the temple renovated and established as a royal monastery. It is
told that on a propitious day,
a bright crystaline spot can be seen
above the wihan of Wat Khaokaeo This shot is believed
a miracle of
the holy object which it kept inside the stupa of the temple.
Wat Samuhpradittharam
Located at Tambon Suandokmai in Amphoe Saohai, on the right bank of
the Pasak River,
Wat Samuhapradittaram is a royal temple with attractive
mural paintings in the ubosot.
Every year between November and December
there is a boat races festival held at this temple.
Chedi Phrakhunmae
Located at Wat Khlongmai at Tambon Nongmu in Amphoe Wihandaeng, 42
kilometres from Saraburi City on Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Highway).
Before Raphat Bridge, the entrance is on the left. Chedi Phrakhunmae
features a similar shape to that of Phra Pathom Chedi in
Nakhon
Pathom. Inside the bell- like
shape part of the chedi, there is a model of the holy
Buddha Footprint
on the lotus-shape base which is surrounded by Buddha images of different
postures. The chedi was constructed to remind children to give gratitude
to their mothers.
Sub Pla Kung Resorvior
Located at village No.4, Ban Khlong Takian, Ban Lum subdistrict. There
were the mountains around the bigger resorvior along with the line
of dam, far from Khao Sam Lun National Park 6km
Khao Kaeo Resorvior
It is natueal water resources, settle down at village No. 4, Khlong
Rua Subdistrict. The resorvoir width 150 metres, length 250 metres

Phra Phutthabaht Festival
2 times/year At Wat Phra Phutthabat
First: from 1st dusk upto 15th dusk waxing moon, 3rd of the month.
Second: from 8th dusk upto 15th dusk waxing moon, 4th of the month. Phra Kieo Kaeo Festival
on 1st dusk, waxing moon 4th of the month . They invited the tooth
of Buddha from Wat Phra Phutthabat Museum celebrated around the town. Chao Phor Khao Tok Festival
on 1st dusk,waxing moon 5th of the month at Wat Phra Phutthabat Long Boat Competition Festival
On Saturday-Sunday the end of September at Sao Hai District Office Put Flower in the Bowl Festival
on 1st dusk, waning moon 8th of the month was the Buddhist Lent Day.

Various Kinds of typical products of Sarabuti are available or souvenirs.
The
well-known one is dairy products, others include salted meat,sweetened meat,curried-
