HGN 10 - ½ Day - 3 Temples Tour & Fish Cave ( private tour )

Visit Wat Pha That Doi Kong Moo on a hilltop overlooking Mae Hong Son for fine panoramic views, then drive to Wat Phra Non and down to the twin temples to Wat Jong Klang and Wat Jong Kam on the lake side in town. The temples are built in the Burmese style. Drive north from the town to a pleasant park and walk under trees to the sacred fish cave, where we feed blue carps up to 1 metre long in the cool water beside a sacred shrine to a hermit. Time: Approximately 4 hours.

HGN 20 - ½ Day - Boat Trip on Pai River & Elephant Ride ( private tour )

Drive from your hotel 15-20 minutes to the banks of the Pai River . We travel by boat with "on-board" motor, a relaxing ride through charming scenery as far as we may to the border with Burma . Here is a police post in rural surroundings, the last checkpoint in Thai territory. Return by boat to the elephant camp for a gentle ride in the forest atop a small Siamese elephant, 2 persons per animal on comfortable seat facing forward. Time: Approximately 5 hours.

HGN 30 - ½ Day - Long Neck Karen Village by Boat ( private tour )

Drive from your hotel to the banks of the Pai River . We travel by boat downstream to the Burmese border, a relaxed ride through charming countryside. Here we visit a village of "Long neck" Karen refugees from Burma . Apart from visitor donations ( made by our guide ) their income derives from the sale of handicrafts made on site. Return by boat and car. Time: Approximately 3 hours.

HGN 40 - ½ Day - Meo Village & Viewpoint overlooking Paibong Dam ( private tour )

Drive from your hotel on south highway ascending through tropical rainforest to a fine viewpoint along the route. Continue to a Meo tribe village sited below a television repeater station at altitude about 800 m. This tribe, originally from China is still practising their animist traditions of worship and are good farmers. Return by car. Time: Approximately 4 hours.

HGN 50 - Day tour - Boat Trip, Elephants & Temples ( private tour )

Daily departure from Mae Hong Son, but only as a private tour.

Start from your hotel at 9 am for a 15-20 minutes drive to Pai River. Travel by boat through a forested countryside with charming views to the Burmese border and return to the Paduang ( "Long neck" ) Karen village of refugees from Burma. Originally semi-nomadic farmers in the jungle, they now rely for income from the sale of handicrafts and donations from visitors (made by our guide on your behalf). The women wear striking clothing and the neck rings from which the name derives. Return by boat and drive to the elephant camp for a ride on elephant back into the forest. After lunch drive to Mae Hong Son for afternoon tour of the temples of Kong Moo, Phra Non, and the twin temples lakeside of Jong Klang and Jong Kam. Return to your hotel. Time: Approximately 7 hours.

HGN 60 - Day tour - Cave Lod Tour ( private tour )

Start from your hotel at 9 am driving north for our first visit to the sacred Fish Cave. From here we drive to a village of the so called "Black" Lahu tribe. Originally from Tibet they still live a basic life according to their traditions and are regarded as the most outgoing and friendly of the hill tribes. From here we drive to a Lisu village. These people originally came from China. Their dress is very colourful. Our final destination is one of the biggest caves in South East Asia. We tour the cave with torches to view the array of stalagmites and stalactites. Buried deep within the chambers of the cave are tombs and ancient ceramics from the past. Return by road to Mae Hong Son. Time: Approximately 8-9 hours.

HGN 70 - Day tour - Trekking, Elephant Ride & Bamboo Rafting ( private tour )

Start from your hotel at 9 am to drive to the elephant camp for a 1 hour ride in deep forest on elephant back, crossing the Pai River to take rafts for a trip on the river for about 1½ hours. We start the trek with 40 minutes walk in flat country, then ascend for about 1 hour and, following a descent of about 40-50 minutes, finish the walk with 20-30 minutes on level ground again. Return to your hotel by car. Time: Approximately 7-8 hours.

HGN 80 - 3 Days / 2 Nights - Mae Hong Son Jungle Trek, Incl. Elephant Riding and Rafting ( private tour )

Daily departure from Mae Hong Son, but only as a private trek.

An intensive trek with lots of variation and adventure. A 3 days solid trek through stunning mountain scenery and suitable for everyone in good shape and a very good way of getting acquainted with various hill tribes. You will get to know the hill tribe people, learn about their language and lifestyle. Trekking through the beautiful jungle and you will learn about the flora and fauna from the experienced guides.

The guide will meet / talk to the clients the day before and the guide will thereafter arrange all the permits necessary. Blankets will be prepared in advance, it is already in the village, but please ask the clients just to bring bed linen (lagenpose).

Changes will unfortunately always occur in a trekking-programme, it has to do with the nature and it is unfortunately not possible to make the exact programme week after week.

The following itinerary is therefore a sample program. The actual program followed on any tour is of course also dependent upon the season and any new trail discoveries. However, the spirit and intention of the tour will always be the same.

Day 1. Pick up from the hotel in Mae Hong Son at 09.00 and then by pick up truck to the elephant camp, experiencing one hour of elephant riding through the jungle to the Pai River and the raft camp. We continue down the river on our bamboo rafts. One hour later we will starting walking through the jungle, lunch in jungle and 3-4 hours later, we will arrive at a Karen Village, the Long Necks, who once emigrated from Burma. We continue higher up in the mountains and approx. 1-2 hours later, we will arrive in a Shan Village. Dinner and we overnight in the Shan village.

Day 2. After breakfast we continue to the Fish Cave, which is located in a shady forest park near the Pha Sua Waterfall. We visit en route a Meo, Mae Aw and a Black Lahu Village and lunch in one of the villages. We overnight at the Black Lahu Village and our guide will again tonight prepare our dinner.

Day 3. After breakfast, our pick up truck will bring us to the prehistoric caves once populated by humans. It is one of the biggest caved in the Southeast Asia. We tour the cave with torches to view the array of stalagmites and stalactites. Buried deep within the chambers of the cave, we see tombs and ancient ceramics from the past. Lunch nearby and we return to Mae Hong Son, where we will arrive in the mid afternoon.

Tour Includes: All transfer by pick up trucks and English speaking guide, very primitive accommodation, full board ( 2B3L2D ), rafting and elephant riding. The tour does not include any beverages.
